2005 Student Campaign Against Gun Violence
After losing a former student to gun violence, students organized a children’s campaign against gun violence. They wrote a petition, spoke in schools, presented at City Council, met with lawmakers, and organized two children’s marches against gun violence. They were also invited to lead a discussion of their campaign at a United Nations Conference on Small Arms, and afterwards had apiece they wrote included in a UN book.
When they were in middle school, they returned to create a film about the campaign, called “Walls & Doors: Inspirations from our Elders.”
