Winter 2025 Newsletter

Dear Friends of Jubilee,

Happy Holidays to you, and here’s to a better new year for this country and the world!

This past year has been a year of growth and new opportunities for our Jubilee community. Our student body has grown significantly, while keeping classes small, so everyone’s voice can be heard. We have three new classroom teachers, a new art teacher, and a piano teacher who is guiding students to compose their own music.

At a time when the present administration and many states are working to erase Black and “woke” history, Jubilee students are spreading undertold stories of history makers from communities of color who have been working for centuries to make the world a better place. They are writing, illustrating and publishing history books. As students wrote, their books are “Unraveling our true past: telling the truth about history and society.”

Over the past year, Jubilee students have been invited to present at many events. There is a growing recognition of their strong sense of the importance of honoring and celebrating their ancestors and elders; people who have worked, over the ages and into the present, to bring justice, freedom and truth to the world. They recently wrote:

“When you know you come from greatness and that your ancestors were heroes and amazing people it builds your confidence and makes you stronger…Presently there are many people trying to take our history away, and we need to protest against it so we can show our power to the world. We want and need to spread this knowledge everywhere we go in order to make the world a better place.”

In the Fall of 1977 Jubilee School opened with no money, some basic raw materials to build, learn and play with, and a group of ten bright, curious and creative four and five year olds. Because of the support of friends like you, we are still building and growing as a learning community forty eight years later. At this time in history, when our students’ voices and ideas are needed more than ever, please consider a gift to Jubilee.
