Our Program

Parent Involvement

At Jubilee, there is recognition that significant and meaningful parent participation is the key to building an atmosphere of high expectations and productivity. Parents go on trips, participate in work days, and several years ago built playground equipment in our backyard which was designed by students. Parents participated in panel presentations with students and teachers at the 24th Annual Research in Ethnographies Conference at the University of Pennsylvania, and at a National Council of Teachers of English Conference in St. Paul, Minnesota. We have an active PTA, and parents serve on the Board of Directors, and all parents are voting members of the Jubilee Corporation.

Building Identity

Having a strong sense of individual and collective greatness is a powerful tool in working towards building a productive future. Individual strengths can be seen by children in their accomplishments; their collective greatness can be seen in the accomplishments of their people and the richness of their culture. At Jubilee the focus of identity building is on education: learning the history of accomplishments, strengths and struggles in the African American community; and on celebration: responding to what is learned through creative projects and rites of passage. Our two year all school studies of Dr. Du Bois and the Harlem Renaissance and our year long study of the Civil Rights Movement are examples of combining scholarship, social activism and celebration in a way that gives students a strong sense of their legacies, the riches of their heritage, and their collective and individual gifts.

Accreditation

Jubilee School is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Elementary Education and the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation.
